Recovery
First Stage.
The first stage of recovery is to remove the victim from the source. Although this may seem very obvious it may not be so simple. Abuse victims can in many cases be fearful to leave their abusive environment. This can be for many reasons, such as;
In any of the above, the victim should first talk to someone they can be trust. Choosing a neutral person, one that is not in the same environment is important. Should this not be possible, or you feel you need additional help, seek the support of a professional, I have listed some contacts below.
Second Stage.
Some people may move on and further support is not necessary. However, where the abuse has been systematic over a long period and the survivor has been an integral part of a church family the emotional damage and fear can be considerable. In which case it may be necessary to seek professional advice, again some contacts are below.
If you are experiencing heightened anxiety , stress, or depression then it is essential that you should seek the help of your GP and perhaps undertake the use of a counsellor. There is further advice on the site, click on the relevant links above.
